Our artists are coming out to play this May
This May, Holy Trinity Church on Boar Lane will be buzzing with colour, conversation, and creativity as Art in Your Eyes launches its very first art event. The show runs on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May, and it’s shaping up to be one of those lovely Leeds weekends where you wander in for a quick look and end up staying far longer than planned.
The idea comes from local organiser Sue Sheard, who spoke about the project with real warmth. She explained that the whole thing began with a simple thought: Leeds is full of talented artists who don’t always get the chance to show their work. Some create quietly at home, some have never exhibited before, and others just need that one opportunity to be seen. Art in Your Eyes is her way of opening the door wide and saying, “Come on in – your art deserves a place in the city centre too.”
Holy Trinity Church is a beautiful choice of venue. Anyone who’s walked past knows how striking it is, and stepping inside to find it filled with paintings, photography, sculpture, textiles, and all sorts of imaginative pieces will be a treat. It’s the kind of setting that makes art feel welcoming rather than intimidating — a space where you can simply enjoy what you see, chat to the artists, and maybe even discover a new favourite.
What makes this event feel special is its community spirit. It isn’t a polished, exclusive gallery show; it’s a celebration of local creativity in all its forms. You’ll find experienced artists exhibiting alongside people showing their work for the very first time. Families can wander through together, curious passers‑by can pop in, and everyone is encouraged to take their time, look closely, and enjoy the variety on display.
Sue hopes the weekend will give artists confidence as well as visibility. For some, this might be the moment they realise their work resonates with others. For visitors, it’s a chance to support local talent simply by turning up, looking around, and appreciating the effort and imagination that goes into every piece.
As Leeds keeps championing its creative communities, Art in Your Eyes feels like exactly the kind of event that belongs right in the heart of our city – friendly, open, and full of people who simply love making things. And don’t just pop in because you happen to be passing; this one’s genuinely worth making a little trip for. If you’re around 10am – 4pm on the 9th or 10th of May, Holy Trinity Church is well worth a visit.
