Shared Lives and Leeds Homeshare

Shared Lives and Leeds Homeshare

Shared Lives and Leeds Homeshare – provide a unique approach to meeting the needs of local people.

Both schemes are part of Leeds City Council. They keep in regular contact with all participants and have careful Covid measures in place.

With the continuing pandemic, might it be time to take part?

Two innovative projects

Shared Lives, can you help?

As a paid Shared Lives carer, you’ll open up your home and family life to include someone who needs care and support. At the same time you’ll be giving their usual full time carers the chance to take a break from caring. You could do this for a few hours each week OR a short time such as a weekend or respite period.
You wouldn’t have ‘working hours’ like a care worker role – it’s all about matching people who get on well together so that it feels more like family life. This can be a very rewarding role as you build a close connection to the people you support.

Leeds Homeshare, providing help

The Homeshare approach meanwhile, is to match a person who is looking for help in their own home – and who has a spare room – with a caring home-sharer. The sharer moves in to provide 10 hours help each week such as cooking, cleaning and odd jobs and they are carefully vetted when they apply to the scheme. As well as practical help, the benefits of having a sharer include company at home and sharing life skills and experience. There is no cost to the main householder and sharers benefit from affordable living.
