Paul Hurrell, who many of you may know grew up in Carlton Grove in Woodhouse (now demolished) and Meanwood, Farm Hill (the white houses). He attended two local schools – Bentley Lane infant and junior school, followed by Stainbeck High School. Leaving school in 1976. And, proving that it’s never too late for anything has published two books with Blossom Spring Publishing!
“My life growing up in Meanwood was full of joy and laughter. I was always playing outside on the ridge or playing football in the streets. My home life was good even though we didn’t have much, and money was always in short supply. Sometimes my tea would be brown sauce on bread and that was it. A posh tea for me was fish fingers and beans.
Around 1975 I began to get into trouble at school and at home. I got the cane for smoking, and a police caution for helping rob a cigarette machine – I didn’t even smoke!
I was unemployed, a Leeds United fan and into punk rock. The future was looking bleak.”

Still together, Paul and Beverley have two children and three grandchildren, who bring them great joy.
After 22 years working for Leeds City Council, Paul retired, providing the freedom and the time to spend on writing.
