opening 26th July 2024
This summer, White Rose Recycled Fashion is opening a new store on Albion Street in Leeds! This addition will allow White Rose to reach more people and further promote sustainable fashion choices. Customers can join in making a difference by shopping at White Rose and supporting its mission to create a better, more sustainable future.
Founded in 2009 by two Nottingham Trent University graduates, White Rose was inspired by the work of Aegis Trust. This distinctive charity shop offers carefully curated recycled clothes for men, women, and children, emphasising values of sustainability and care for people and the planet.
White Rose aims to mitigate the environmental impact of fast fashion by minimising textile waste and encouraging sustainable choices. Operating on a circular fashion model, the organisation ensures garments are worn as long as possible and then upcycled or recycled. With successful stores in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, and Sheffield, they are excited to bring their unique shopping experience to Leeds.
The emphasis on high-quality, second-hand fashion has made both physical and online selling platforms, such as Depop and Vinted, highly sought after. Offering branded and new fashion items at affordable prices, White Rose continually updates its inventory, adding fresh lines daily. Their wide variety of hand-picked brand-name fashion pieces, allows customers to follow trends sustainably. Ranging from high-end Ted Baker, Levi’s, and Dickies, to Zara and Topshop, also including many online fashion brands like Asos and Boohoo to catering for all consumer budgets. The shopping experience is designed to be simple and enjoyable, even for those new to second-hand shopping, with all clothes undergoing thorough inspection to ensure quality. While high quality preloved is a large part of the store, they have also nurtured some fantastic corporate relationships and receive large donations of ‘terminal stock’ from high street brands.
Fashion as a means of self-expression is encouraged at White Rose, which offers a playful approach to style with unique, recycled items. Extending the lifespan of clothing, reduces textile waste, and promotes a closed-loop system of reuse, benefiting both people and the environment.
By encouraging recycling and reducing textile waste, they address significant sources of pollution and CO2 emissions. The fashion industry’s use of large quantities of resources and toxic chemicals can harm water supplies, but choosing recycled fashion can significantly reduce these negative impacts.
Each preloved purchase or donation helps develop sustainable solutions to fast fashion and supports White Rose’s charitable goals. One hundred percent of profits go to Aegis Trust, a charity dedicated to building peace in communities at risk of genocide and aiding those in recovery.
You’ll feel great knowing your purchases prevented clothing from ending up in landfills, supported a worthy cause, and added some fabulous new outfits to your wardrobe.
Do you have clothes you rarely wear, taking up space and missing their opportunity to be reused? Donating these items would give them new life and support the organisation’s mission.
