Like many businesses previously we made our buying decisions on quality price and service, and considering the environmental impact came fourth in our priority list. We were shipping paper 8000 miles to save just a few percent. Deforestation and the emissions generated moving goods halfway around the earth is harming our planet. We decided we needed to take responsibility for our actions. Following reading an interview in this magazine, we contacted Carbon Green who are an environmental consultancy, they audited our business and created a report explaining how much carbon we emit each year. It came as a shock when we realised our business activities result in 1370 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere every year.

125% of all our emissions are offset
The result is Beyond Neutral. We offset all our emissions and in addition an extra 25%, so 125% of all our emissions are offset. We donate the money to a tree planting charity in central America called Taking Route, planting trees in central America and fighting to stop de-forestation. Our donations each year will result in over 1000 trees being planted. We have also teamed up with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, helping them to plant trees across the Yorkshire Dales. Our target for 2021 is to plant over 200 trees with them, they are doing an outstanding job, and so far, they have planted over 1.5 million trees. This will be done by creating new broadleaf and mixed plantations, ideally next to existing woodland. Tree species planted will be those naturally found in the Dales, including oak, downy birch, rowan, and alder.
In Partnership with trusted suppliers and tree planting charities, we go above and beyond to deliver good paper sustainably. When Beyond Neutral customers buy paper for their printers at home or businesses, they can be confident that we will offset all the emissions created and we will also go Beyond Carbon Neutral.
