Answer the call: Volunteer with Childline
Childline is a lifeline for young people across the UK, offering a safe space when they have no one else to turn to. Right now, we’re calling on compassionate individuals in Leeds to join our dedicated team of volunteer counsellors.
This is your chance to make a real difference.
As a volunteer counsellor, you’ll can be the voice of hope and comfort for young people who desperately need someone to listen and care. Whether they’re grappling with bullying, family issues, academic pressures, social media stress, body image concerns, mental health challenges, substance abuse, questions about gender identity or anything else, your empathy and support could make a profound difference in young lives.
By offering a supportive presence, you can help alleviate these strains and provide much-needed relief. Join us, and be the person who helps them find light in their darkest moments. If you want to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people, we need you. Your involvement can bring hope and positive change when it’s needed most.
Flexible shifts: We understand that life is busy, so we offer flexible shift options throughout the day – from morning to evening, and even overnight. Choose the times that work best for you! Each shift is 3.5 hours long, and you’ll have a brief and debrief with fellow volunteers and Childline Practitioners before and after each shift.
Commitment: We ask for a basic commitment of 26 shifts per year. Your dedication will directly impact the lives of young people in need.
Why volunteer with Childline?
Make a Difference: You’ll be part of a team dedicated to transforming young lives. Your compassion and understanding can have a lasting impact.
Training and support: We provide full training to ensure you’re ready for the role, and our practitioners are there to support you every step of the way, both during and after all of your shifts.
“Volunteering for Childline is by far one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done! As well as getting to support, empower and work to keep young people safe, there have been so many opportunities for me to learn and grow my own skills, which have come in handy both on shift and in my personal life.
There’s a real sense of community in the Leeds base and I feel truly valued and supported by the amazing team here.
If you’re looking to do something new that really makes a difference, I couldn’t recommend it more.”

We regularly hold virtual and face-to-face Volunteer Information Meetings where anyone who’s interested in finding out more about Childline can get all the information needed. This is a great opportunity for people to ask any questions they have too. After the meeting we’ll send visitors a link to the application form if they decide to proceed.
